TREATMENT PROCESS
Step 1: Treatment area shaved and the skin is wiped clean.
Step 2: The handpiece is applied to the skin in a “stamping” motion, emitting quick laser and coolant spray pulses to the desired treatment area.
Step 3: Coolant spray is wiped off, soothing cream is applied.
You're all done!
WHAT IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL?
Laser hair removal results in permanent reduction of unwanted face and body hair. Both men and women who regularly wax or shave will benefit immensely from this procedure. All areas of the face and body can be treated, except the underside of the eyebrow.
Laser hair reduction works by thermally damaging hair follicles so that they are no longer able to grow hair. A laser produces a single wavelength of light which is able to penetrate the skin. The laser light is absorbed into the hair shaft and rapidly heats and damages both the follicle and the vessel that provides the follicle with oxygen and nutrients.
HAIR GROWTH CYCLE
In order to understand laser hair removal you need to understand the hair growth cycle.
The hair growth cycle has three distinct stages:
Anagen: active growth phase
Catagen: regressive phase
Telegen: resting phase
It is ONLY during the ANAGEN active growth phase where the laser permanently disables hair growth. Over a course of 8 treatments at the correct intervals, we can target that phase of growth.
The cycle for every area is different:
Facial: 4 weeks
Body: 6 weeks
The cycle for each hair is not sychronised which is why its important to have multiple treatments and at the correct time for optimal results. E.g. Every 4 weeks for facial, every 6 weeks for body.
IS IT PERMANENT?
On average, Laser Hair Removal treatments offer a 70% to 90% permanent reduction of hair in the treated areas.
The reduction you receive is permanent, but it is impossible to achieve 100% removal of every single follicle in a given area. Over the course of treatment your hair and the amount of it that you have will change dramatically - and we mean dramatically. What starts off as rough, coarse and thick hair will eventually become soft, thin and light hair. You will have areas where the hair has completely disappeared and some areas with sporadic light hairs remain. These hairs will be picked up on your subsequent top up treatments.
Top up treatments are recommended to keep these finer hairs away and are typically needed once or twice a year.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED?
This is all down to the individual. Below is an average amount of sessions of someone who has pale skin, dark hair that is dense, has no underlying medical issues and attends for their sessions and top up sessions at the time frame given to them.
- Face 6-12 Sessions (Hormonal and most difficult areas to treat, due to hair being finer and more follicles being present)
- Bikini and Underarm: 6-10 Sessions (Labia is one of the most difficult areas here, due to skin colour being darker)
- Large areas, legs/arms etc 6-10 Sessions (Knees, Upper thighs due to thick skin on knees or finer hairs on thighs)
- Mans Back/Chest 10-12 sessions due to hair being very strong and coarse
After these sessions have been completed maintenance sessions are required, most people will need an average of 2-3 maintenance sessions a year.
IS IT PAINFUL?
Laser hair removal is extremely fast with large areas treated in a matter of minutes. Treatments are also relatively comfortable thanks to Candela’s patented Dynamic Cooling Device. This inbuilt device delivers a spay of super-cooled gas directly onto the skin as the laser fires ensuring that treatments are very tolerable and certainly less painful than waxing.
Many clients liken the treatment to the sensation of an elastic band snapped against the skin. We understand that pain thresholds can differ between individuals, and a topical anesthetic can be applied prior to treatment, if preferred.
IS IT EXPENSIVE?
Laser Hair Removal not only offers the fastest, most effective method for permanent hair reduction, but, over a lifetime, it is also the cheapest. Other, temporary methods of hair removal must be repeated every four to six weeks - forever. With Laser Hair Removal, most people require little to no maintenance after the initial course of treatment, saving vast quantities of time and money.
WHAT IF I'M PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING?
We do not treat clients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to become pregnant. While Laser Hair Removal has not been proven to be damaging to pregnant or lactating mothers and their children, at GROOM, we don’t take chances with our clients’ well being. We recommend putting your treatments on hold during these periods.
WHY DO I NEED A CONSULTATION?
Laser Hair Removal is safe and effective, when used appropriately. Ensuring your well being – as well as the desired outcome – requires a thorough understanding of your concerns, expectations, skin type, hair colour, and medical history.
A patch test is done on a small section of the different body areas you want treated which provides us with the optimal temperature for your skin. It also checks the sensitivity of the laser to your skin. We are looking for any adverse reactions in this time.
The patch test is complimentary. No self tan/perfumed products or aerosol on the skin prior to the patch test.
